"Maternal burnout is not merely a personal struggle; it's a societal challenge. The relentless expectations placed on mothers, coupled with the ever-increasing demands of modern life, create a pressure cooker effect. Scientifically, we must recognize and address the factors contributing to this burnout, advocating for systemic changes that support and uplift mothers in their multifaceted roles."

Facts about Maternal Burnout:
High Prevalence
Maternal burnout is a widespread phenomenon, with a significant number of moms experiencing high levels of stress and exhaustion. Research indicates that the demands of parenting, coupled with societal expectations and multiple responsibilities, contribute to the prevalence of burnout among mothers.
Impact on Mental Health
Mothers experiencing burnout often report symptoms of anxiety and depression. The constant pressure to meet the needs of their children, combined with societal expectations, can lead to emotional exhaustion and negatively affect mental well-being.
Relationship Strain
Burnout can strain relationships within the family. Mothers who are burnt out may find it challenging to maintain positive and patient interactions with their children and partners. This strain on relationships can further contribute to feelings of isolation and stress for the mother.
You're too important to your family to NOT put yourself first...

When it comes to burnout due to societal pressures and simply trying to juggle too many balls all at once, I am not proud to admit I have fallen victim to my own bad  habits more than once. The results of overextending myself in my professional and personal life have been so devastating to my health in general that I wanted to put a stop to it for the sake of all moms and their families.

It wasn’t until I reached a point where I physically couldn’t get our of bed in the mornings, that I realized I would HAVE to change my ways. Always saying yes (to the boss, the kids, friends, family etc.) takes its toll for sure, and we as moms often joke that we “never do anything for ourselves”… but burnout is a real phenomenon and we need to sit ourselves down and address the issue before we reach that desperate place.

What does stress do to our bodies?

Physical illness due to burnout is a well-documented consequence of chronic stress and exhaustion. When we experience prolonged periods of intense stress without sufficient opportunities for rest and recovery, our bodies can exhibit a range of physical symptoms, which may include persistent fatigue, disrupted sleep patterns, headaches, and gastrointestinal issues. The immune system, compromised by the ongoing stress response, becomes less effective, increasing susceptibility to illnesses. Cardiovascular problems such as high blood pressure may also manifest.

Additionally, burnout often disrupts normal cortisol levels, impacting the body’s ability to regulate inflammation and contributing to a variety of health concerns.

Supermom Checklist

With this free gift to you, I would like to emphasize the importance of addressing stress and implementing self-care practices to mitigate the risk of enduring physical health consequences. Contrary to popular belief, it is NOT beneficial to put everyone else first, as we won’t be of much use to anyone when we physically can’t function.

Let’s start prioritizing our health and wellbeing, to better serve those around us.
